NELF meeting in Helsinki, 5-7-10-2007

The meeting was hosted by Left Alliance. 37 participants from 15 parties in 11 European countries participated in the meeting. The meeting worked in four sessions:

• Session: The Challenge of Globalization to Europe

• Session: The Trade Union Movement and the European Social Model

• Session: Developing NELF to Correspond to the Challenges

• Session: Conclusions about the Future Work of NELF and its Development

A special session on the situation in Palestine was held as well. The NELF working group on Middle East had a meeting on October 5, 2007, and the women’s network of NELF gathered together on 6-7 October 2007.

NELF XXXII meeting adopted the following statements:

• Citizens must be heard in EU Treaty reform

• NO to the “antimissile shield” – No to a new cold war!

• Supporting a Just Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

• Gender Aspects of Social Exclusion and EU Economic Politics

The XXXII NELF meeting decided that the next NELF meeting will be organised by AKEL of Cyprus promised to organize the next NELF meeting, probably in early summer 2008, and Party of the Italian Communists the one after that at the end of the year. In 2009 and after the meeting will probably be hosted by Iniciativa per Catalunya, Partido Comunista Portuquês or Parti Communiste Français.
